Born of Ravana’s rage against the light of Elenath and Calador, Tiamat embodies the unbridled power, fury, and cruelty of the elements. Tiamat most often takes the form of a five-headed dragon, each head representing one of the races of chromatic dragons. More rarely, she is also depicted as a beautiful woman, a bitter crone, or a dark warrior. Embodying a dragon’s greed, some cults also worship her as a goddess of wealth and power. Open shrines and temples to Tiamat are especially common in seaports or near volcanoes, where she’s worshipped in propitiation of her destructive power.
